Ever since I started Engagio, I’ve often wondered “What is the state of the world in online conversations”? At Engagio, we know that the State of the World in online discussions, commenting, interactions and engagement is healthy, growing and gaining importance as a driving force for the Social Web.
But what are the details behind it?
Engagio is embarking on an ambitious project to survey hundreds (maybe thousands) of users globally in order to reveal the real state of the universe in this segment. Hopefully, this factual data-gathering project will set the record straight on what is actually happening and what users are thinking, and it will present a balanced and authoritative voice for it.
The more users take the survey, the more richness in the data we will have to perform what is referred to as “cross-tabular analysis”, where we can answer questions like “For those that comment moderately AND are between 18-20 AND are in North America, how do they rank the benefits of commenting”? (In one of my previous careers, I was a Research Analyst, so I have learned a thing or two about how to conduct and manage world-class surveys that yield insights and market value.)
Social Interactions and Online Commenting are the highest forms of social engagement. They often result in creating or enhancing relationships with new or existing contacts, as well as nurturing vibrant online communities around blogs and web content.
So, the aim of this survey will be to demystify user engagement in social networks and online blog/content communities, as well as uncover the current usage patterns, benefits, issues, expectations, drivers and outcomes of social conversations.
In terms of process, we will promote the Survey link on social media social networks, and via a widget on other friendly blogs. We will announce the results during BlogWorld in New York City on June 6, during a special session that will be followed by a panel discussion exploring and discussing the results of the findings in the context of serving online communities. (I will update this blog with the session details when it becomes available)
Taking the survey is a 3-5 minutes exercise. Just click on this link to get started. And feel free to share the link on your social networks: https://surveymonkey.com/s/engagiosurvey

The data collection deadline is May 18th 2012 midnight EST. And if you leave us your email after taking the survey (at the end of the survey), you’ll be the first to know about the survey results.
The world needs to know about the State of Online Conversations on the Social Web. Let your voice and opinion be heard.
